The Burnt Oak Nepalese Community and Friends of the Silkstream joined hands by organising a Community Cleanup along the Silk Stream in Burnt Oak and Colindale on Sunday 1 June as part of London’s Rivers Week 2025 in partnership with Thames21 — a leading environmental charity focused on improving the capital’s waterways and green spaces.

The group gathered as scheduled at 11:30am in front of Unitas Youth Zone, with approximately 70 volunteers participating. We joined alongside the Nepali Language and Cultural Centre (NLCC), Friends of Silkstream, and Friends of Watling Park — all contributing by to a strong joint community effort.

The weather was ideal for the activity.

The local Member of Parliament and several councillors also attended and took part in the clean-up alongside volunteers.

The event reflects the Burnt Oak Nepalese Community’s ongoing commitment to civic responsibility and local involvement. We will continue to support future projects with Thames21, Friends of Silkstream, Friends of Watling Park, and other partners to help maintain and improve London’s shared spaces
