According to the official local election results, Councillor Lachhya Bahadur Gurung (right) was re-elected in the Edgwarebury ward with 1,951 votes, while Councillor Kamal Bahadur Gurung (left) secured re-election in Burnt Oak with 1,279 votes reaffirming the continued trust and confidence placed in them by local residents.

A Proud Moment for the Nepali Community: Councillors Lachhya Gurung and Kamal Gurung Continue to Earn Public Trust

The Nepali community in the United Kingdom has once again received a positive and proud message, as Councillor Lachhya Bahadur Gurung of Edgwarebury and Councillor Kamal Bahadur Gurung of Burnt Oak continue their public service after once again earning the trust and confidence of local residents.

At a time when the presence and participation of the Nepali community in local British politics continues to grow stronger, the continued visibility, accessibility and public acceptance of these two Nepali-origin representatives is being viewed as a meaningful achievement for the wider community. For many, this represents not only political success, but also the growing representation, civic participation and public confidence of the British-Nepali community.

Councillor Lachhya Bahadur Gurung has long been a respected and familiar figure within the Nepali diaspora community in the UK. Having previously served as the Deputy Mayor of Barnet, he has continued to contribute actively to local politics, community engagement and public service over many years. His journey from a Gurkha background into public leadership is regarded by many Nepali migrants as inspiring and symbolic of the community’s wider progress in Britain.

Likewise, Councillor Kamal Bahadur Gurung has built a strong reputation in Burnt Oak as a representative who remains closely connected to the community. His approachable nature, willingness to listen to residents’ concerns, and active involvement in community activities have helped create a positive image not only within the Nepali community, but across wider local communities as well.

For many Nepalis living in the UK, these two councillors are seen as more than political representatives. Members of the community say they have increasingly become trusted community guardians — helping Nepali families better understand local systems, access opportunities and move forward in society with greater confidence.

As the Nepali population and civic participation continue to grow across areas such as Burnt Oak, Edgware and Colindale, the increasing presence of Nepali-origin representatives in local government is also strengthening the confidence of the wider community. Many believe this sends a particularly positive message to younger generations about leadership, representation and civic participation.

Meanwhile, Chairman Khamir Gurung of Burnt Oak Nepali Community (BONC) expressed happiness at the continued success of both councillors, describing it as a proud moment for the community. According to him, Councillor Lachhya Gurung and Councillor Kamal Gurung have for many years played an important role in helping connect the Nepali community with wider society, providing guidance and encouraging the community to move forward with confidence.

Chairman Gurung also confirmed that BONC has begun discussions regarding a formal felicitation and congratulatory programme for both councillors in the near future. He expressed confidence that the event would not only honour the achievements of two individuals, but also celebrate the wider social, cultural and political presence of the Nepali community in the United Kingdom.

नेपाली समुदायको गौरव : पुनः जनविश्वास जित्दै काउन्सिलर लक्ष्य गुरुङ र काउन्सिलर कमल गुरुङ

बेलायतस्थित नेपाली समुदायका लागि फेरि एकपटक सकारात्मक र गौरवपूर्ण सन्देश आएको छ। बार्नेट बरो अन्तर्गत एड्गवेयरबरीका काउन्सिलर लक्ष्य बहादुर गुरुङ तथा बर्न्ट ओकका काउन्सिलर कमल बहादुर गुरुङले पुनः स्थानीय जनविश्वास प्राप्त गर्दै आफ्नो सार्वजनिक यात्रालाई निरन्तरता दिएका छन्।

स्थानीय राजनीतिमा नेपाली समुदायको उपस्थिति क्रमशः मजबुत बन्दै गएको वर्तमान सन्दर्भमा यी दुई नेपाली मूलका जनप्रतिनिधिको निरन्तर सक्रियता, पहुँच र स्वीकार्यता समुदायका लागि अर्थपूर्ण उपलब्धिका रूपमा हेरिएको छ। धेरैका लागि यो उपलब्धि केवल राजनीतिक सफलता मात्र नभई बेलायतस्थित नेपाली समुदायको बढ्दो प्रतिनिधित्व, सामाजिक सहभागिता र सार्वजनिक विश्वासको प्रतिबिम्ब पनि हो।

काउन्सिलर लक्ष्य बहादुर गुरुङ बेलायतस्थित नेपाली समुदायमा लामो समयदेखि परिचित र सम्मानित व्यक्तित्व हुनुहुन्छ। बार्नेट बरोको डेपुटी मेयरको जिम्मेवारीसमेत सम्हालिसक्नुभएका उहाँले स्थानीय राजनीति, सामुदायिक सहकार्य तथा सार्वजनिक सेवामा निरन्तर योगदान दिँदै आउनुभएको छ। पूर्व गोरखा सैनिक पृष्ठभूमिबाट सार्वजनिक नेतृत्वसम्मको उहाँको यात्रा धेरै नेपाली आप्रवासीका लागि प्रेरणादायी मानिन्छ।

त्यस्तै, काउन्सिलर कमल बहादुर गुरुङले बर्न्ट ओक क्षेत्रमा समुदायसँग नजिक रहेर काम गर्ने प्रतिनिधिका रूपमा आफ्नो विश्वसनीयता स्थापित गर्नुभएको छ। स्थानीय बासिन्दाका समस्या सुन्ने, आवश्यक परामर्श तथा समन्वय गर्ने, र सामुदायिक गतिविधिहरूमा सक्रिय उपस्थित रहने उहाँको शैलीले नेपालीसहित अन्य समुदायबीच पनि सकारात्मक छवि निर्माण गरेको बताइन्छ।

बेलायतमा बसोबास गर्ने धेरै नेपालीहरूका लागि यी दुवै काउन्सिलर केवल राजनीतिक प्रतिनिधि मात्र नभई समुदायका भरोसायोग्य अभिभावकका रूपमा स्थापित हुँदै जानुभएको छ। विशेषगरी बर्न्ट ओक तथा आसपासका क्षेत्रमा बसोबास गर्ने नेपाली समुदायलाई स्थानीय प्रणाली बुझ्न, अवसरहरू उपयोग गर्न तथा समाजमा अझ आत्मविश्वासका साथ अघि बढ्न उहाँहरूले महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका खेलेको समुदायका सदस्यहरू बताउँछन्।

बर्न्ट ओक, एड्गवेयर, कोलिन्डेल लगायत क्षेत्रमा नेपाली समुदायको संख्या र सक्रियता उल्लेखनीय रूपमा बढिरहेका बेला स्थानीय राजनीतिमा नेपाली मूलका प्रतिनिधिहरूको उपस्थिति समुदायको आत्मविश्वाससँग पनि जोडिएको छ। यसले विशेषगरी युवा पुस्तामा सार्वजनिक जीवन, नेतृत्व र नागरिक सहभागिताप्रति सकारात्मक सन्देश प्रवाह गरेको मानिन्छ।

यसैबीच Burnt Oak Nepali Community (BONC) का अध्यक्ष खमिर गुरुङले दुवै काउन्सिलरको पुनः सफलताप्रति खुशी व्यक्त गर्दै समुदायका लागि यो गौरवको विषय भएको बताएका छन्। उहाँका अनुसार, काउन्सिलर लक्ष्य गुरुङ र काउन्सिलर कमल गुरुङले वर्षौँदेखि नेपाली समुदायलाई स्थानीय समाजसँग जोड्न, आवश्यक मार्गदर्शन दिन तथा समुदायलाई अघि बढ्न प्रेरित गर्ने महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका निर्वाह गर्दै आउनुभएको छ।

अध्यक्ष गुरुङले BONC ले निकट भविष्यमा दुवै काउन्सिलरलाई औपचारिक रूपमा बधाई तथा सम्मान व्यक्त गर्ने कार्यक्रम आयोजना गर्ने तयारी गरिरहेको जानकारी दिँदै उक्त कार्यक्रमले केवल दुई व्यक्तिको सफलतालाई मात्र नभई बेलायतस्थित नेपाली समुदायको सामाजिक, सांस्कृतिक तथा राजनीतिक उपस्थितिलाई समेत सम्मान गर्ने विश्वास व्यक्त गर्नुभयो।
