At Burnt Oak Nepalese Community’s Health and Wellbeing Hub – Hamro Lifesavers, we usually run monthly Basic Life Support sessions. This October, we took it a step further — hosting five sessions in various community spaces to help even more people learn vital CPR skills. This month, 85 people, including adults and children, became ResusReady through our five community sessions.

Session Highlights

11th October – Watling Community Centre (Church Group)

The month’s first session brought the community together in high spirits, with participants keen to learn and practise Basic Life Support.

12th October – NLCC Children’s Session

Children from the Nepalese Language & Cultural Centre (NLCC) learned how to recognise cardiac arrest and perform CPR.

25th October – Montrose Playing Fields Drop-In

A bright community day where passers-by joined in spontaneously — including one mother who called her husband and two young children (aged 8 and 6) to take part.

We were honoured to be joined by Cllr Kamal Gurung, Cllr Lachhya Gurung, and MP David Pinto-Duschinsky, all showing their support for this vital initiative.

30th October – Stafford Nepalese Community (2 Sessions)

Two sessions were held in Staffordshire with the Stafford Nepalese Community at Dixon Community Centre. Young participants thanked Shushma, our Wellbeing Coordinator, saying the training was both useful and inspiring. Many left feeling confident they could save a life and eager to share their knowledge with friends.

A Word of Thanks

A huge thank you to all our wonderful volunteers who gave their time and energy to teach these vital skills.

Your dedication truly saves lives.

We also thank Barnet Council and the Resuscitation Council UK for their community grant support, enabling us to make CPR training more accessible across Burnt Oak, London, and Staffordshire.

Why It Matters

Around 80% of cardiac arrests happen at home.

Yet only half of UK adults feel confident performing CPR.

Sadly, more than 9 in 10 people who suffer an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest do not survive.

By equipping more people with the skills and confidence to act quickly, we can change these statistics — one training session at a time.

About the Campaign

Restart a Heart Month is an annual national and global initiative led by Resuscitation Council UK, aiming to raise awareness of cardiac arrest and encourage everyone to learn CPR.
